CEU Courses for SLPs

There is increasing awareness that autism spectrum conditions occur in females at a rate previously unrecognized. This course will discuss gender differences and the rationale for identifying these females so they receive appropriate support. This course is presented in cooperation with the American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders (ABCLLD).

While clinical skills are important, strong therapeutic presence can bring clinical practice to another level. This course will introduce the five components of therapeutic presence, and describe how SLPs can utilize mindfulness practices to enhance clinical skills and maximize their impact with pediatric or adult clients.

This is Part 5 of the five-part series, Five Fresh Perspectives on Applying LPAA Principles to Treatment for Neurogenic Communication Disorders. This course will provide an overview of the role of the environment as it relates to communication and participation among individuals with aphasia. The World Health Organization – International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (WHO-ICF) framework and the Life Participant Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) framework will be utilized to discuss barriers and facilitators to participatory environments, and characteristics of environments that foster authentic participation and genuine communication opportunities.

This is Part 3 of the five-part series, Five Fresh Perspectives on Applying LPAA Principles to Treatment for Neurogenic Communication Disorders. The Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) is consistent with a person-centered care treatment model in speech therapy. This course focuses on how the clinical SLP can use the LPAA in language therapy from day one, with a focus on treating the language impairment.

This is Part 2 of the five-part series, Five Fresh Perspectives on Applying LPAA Principles to Treatment for Neurogenic Communication Disorders. This course will begin with an overview of the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) framework and highlight the "personal, identity, attitudes and feelings" domain of the Living with Aphasia: Framework for Outcome Measurement (A-FROM). The current literature connecting story construction and identity in aphasia will be reviewed, and evidence-based resources for using personal narratives in therapy sessions will be shared.

This is Part 1 of the five-part series, Five Fresh Perspectives on Applying LPAA Principles to Treatment for Neurogenic Communication Disorders. This course discusses the rationale that supports the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA), and application of LPAA across a variety of clinical settings utilizing the C.A.P.E. categories (Connecting people; Augmentative/Alternative communication (AAC); Partner training; Education and resources). This 3-part course introduces SLPs to topics related to end-of-life care. Including how and where people die, the role of SLPs and the application of ethical principles in end-of-life situations, and the issues of grief, spirituality, and the "good death."

Functional auditory assessment is critical to determine level of function, develop appropriate intervention goals, & achieve maximum outcomes. This course looks in detail at functional auditory assessment/intervention to provide SLPs with a better understanding of hearing loss in children, in terms of the broader speech, language, and academic contexts that are driven by learning to listen.

This 2-part series provides a language and literacy toolkit refresher for school-based SLPs, focusing on interventions that resonate with students to maximize motivation and engagement.
