The topic is potentially so valuable to clinical practice, and the presenter is lovely, but I am not leaving the course with anything that I can apply to my practice tomorrow, which is always my goal in taking a clinical CE course. The first half was devoted to the rationale for using narratives, which is important, but most clinicians likely already have buy in. Several approaches were named but no details provided; viewers have to look them up themselves. Most of us simply don't have time.

Dr. Strong reminded me of the ultimate goal of an Aphasia patient is not just completing traditional speech therapy goals. The ultimate goal for the patient with aphasia is how to live with aphasia and move forward. This is such a challenge because the patient 's goal is to become what they were before the CVA and loss of language skills.

I thought the concept of this course sounded great but the delivery of the subject matter was confusing especially when discussing the Evidence based narrative methods. It would have been helpful to provide more relatable examples and definitive terms when providing the information. This course seemed more like a thesis presentation opposed to a course for relatable treatment ideas

I am in home care (12 years) with only 1 other SLP (who I interact well with). I have used many of these techniques in a more "haphazard" way d/t to my background in psychology. This helped to guide me more towards a framework within the aphasia community and directed me to more succinct resources.

The LPAA approach to Aphasia Treatment makes so much sense...focus on the individual, their needs to function in the environment, their narratives, their identities etc. is the only way to achieve improvement in their Quality of Life! Traditional, out of context therapy has had little to no carryover to a person functioning outside of a therapy room...and I believe it is one reason it is sometimes hard to get Doctor's orders to eval & treat. I love this method of therapy, for perhaps multiple "diagnoses", and I hope the focus remains on this type of treatment. It makes being a therapist much more interesting and motivating! Thanks for the great presentation!
