Supporting Monolingual and Multilingual Children’s Phonological Development
By age 5, most children worldwide have acquired most consonants, vowels (and tones), and are intelligible. Respectful assessments that analyze children’s speech in all their home languages, and consider standard and dialect forms relevant to the child’s family, are described in this course. Laryngectomy Rehabilitation: Building a Foundation After Hospital Discharge
Rehabilitation for the total laryngectomy patient following post-surgical hospital discharge, with the goal of independent airway management, is described in this course. Best practices and challenges for pulmonary and communication training in home care and subacute settings are addressed, including electrolarynx use, voice prosthesis care, and tips for obtaining necessary supplies. A case study is included.
