I think that this course should be a requirement. I have been a part of so many IEP meetings in which it is clear co-workers do not have the self-awareness of how their behaviors impact parents behaviors. Everyone needs to be reminded that it is a ‘team’ approach and we are all there for the common good of the child, just as you mentioned in the beginning!

This kind of education is SO VALUABLE and NEEDED in our profession. I have heard so many stories from parents who feel like they are against the school team, rather than on the same team. I think we assume these skills are present, but acknowledging that they can and need to be taught is so important. Thank you for this presentation!

This was practical. Thankfully I haven’t been in a hostile situation, but it’s good to be somewhat prepared. The instructor was practical and understands what it’s like to be a parent and advocate for a child with complex needs.

It provided techniques that i feel i can implement when dealing with conflict or when problem solving. SLP's are seen as empathetic and usually respected but there are still differences of opinion when it comes to writing IEP's. The webinar presenter had a relaxed style and the handout is a great resource and I fell both will support me at my next IEP or staff meeting.

The course was enlivening, easy to comprehend. There were minor distractions with the presenter's use of interrupters (um, um). Her speaking style has an interesting quality. Accented dialect? The lilt raised at the end of some sentences. Once desensitized to these two detractors, I focused on the content, which I found to be well-organized and applicable. Also, reading the reviews of those who are also parents of kids on IEP's was worth pondering.

The presenter was excellent and gave several practical examples for why/when certain behaviors should (or should not) be used. The examples really helped me put the material into perspective. I really liked all of the charts and graphs as well.

As an educator, we are all occasionally faced with difficult conversations that we must have with parents. This course provided excellent strategies for de-escalating a heated parent or conversation and presented techniques and approaches for handling these difficult situations in the most effective way possible for a positive outcome. The suggestions presented in this course could be utilized across many challenging situations that occur both inside and outside the educational setting.

I felt that this course was presented from the point of "IEP team/professionals right, parents wrong" and all of the solutions came across as very condescending to the parents. As a parent of a child with a disability and an IEP, if a team member attempted those mitigation strategies with me I would be absolutely furious and feel I wasn't being listened to at all. Absolutely nothing said about ACTUALLY listening to patents instead of just pretending to listen enough to calm them down.
