An introduction to transforming voice and communication for individuals who identify as transgender, non-binary and gender diverse is provided in this course. Cultural competence - including terminology and medical considerations - and evidence-based practices for assessment and treatment of pitch, resonance, and nonverbal communication across the gender spectrum are also addressed.

The status of health literacy in the U.S., and evidence-based strategies to ensure that information and services match individuals' capacity to understand and use them, are discussed in this course.

Depression and other mental health challenges are prevalent in individuals with aphasia. Recent research on the mental health status of individuals with aphasia, along with mental health and well-being screening options and basic counseling approaches that can be used by SLPs, are discussed in this 20Q.

This course, which is based on the textbook Evaluating & Enhancing Children's Phonological Systems: Research & Theory to Practice by Barbara W. Hodson, discusses the knowledge and skills needed to plan and implement evaluation and optimal treatment for children with highly unintelligible speech. Topics also include phonological development/acquisition and current challenges in this area of our field.

The ways in which cultural and linguistic diversity impacts service delivery for stuttering in children are discussed in this course. A review of the research on this topic is provided, along with a discussion of how diversity affects the presentation of stuttering, and best practices for providing a culturally-responsive stuttering assessment for children.

The complex symptomatology of Lewy body dementias (Parkinson’s disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies) along with evaluation and intervention approaches for PTs, OTs, and SLPs are examined in this Master Class. Case studies emphasize opportunities and approaches for interprofessional collaboration to provide comprehensive, person-centered care.
