An introduction to transforming voice and communication for individuals who identify as transgender, non-binary and gender diverse is provided in this course. Cultural competence - including terminology and medical considerations - and evidence-based practices for assessment and treatment of pitch, resonance, and nonverbal communication across the gender spectrum are also addressed.

Jill Michael holds a Certificate of Vocology from the National Center for Voice and Speech in conjunction with the University of Utah where she completed advance studies on voice and voice disorders. She mentors both students and new graduates as an adjunct professor teaching Transgender Voice and Voice Disorders at Kean University and at Children’s Specialized Hospital as a pediatric SLP. Jill holds two Masters degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from Kean University and Theater Arts from the University of Connecticut. She is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and lives with her partner Abbie in New Jersey.
