The presenters experience as a clinician and researcher was excellent. As a culturally diverse (my family is representative of several cultures) SLP, I appreciated the frank discussion regarding dialect and nuances that may not be understood or deemed a red flag from someone unfamiliar with the culture. Thank you for highlighting some of the areas in which we need to do better as a country and as humans when we are placed in a position to better understand an individual through assessment.

The presenter explained ways to examine and diagnose children who are bilingual and how to accurately evaluate children for stuttering. She provided many examples cultural differences that should be take considered when assessing a child who speaks a different language. Helpful knowledge was shared that should be thought about when the client/student comes from a culture that is different from the SLP.

We spend a lot of time on cultural competence in general but do not have enough information to apply it to all of the disorders and delays we treat; therefore, this training was essential in planning for our diverse learners who stutter. I especially feel the evaluation piece was helpful to ensure we have all areas represented.

Diversity in the USA on the rise is important! Several comments that were too vague. 1) assess all languages by the pws. Many Indian children understand but do not regularly speak the parents tongue, 2) when SLPs see word changing, they best be able to diagnose tension and know it's stuttering, 3) SSI comment: "if you use the SSI type the test is inappropriate" That damns the SLP and the report, 4) is the OASES test valid?, 5) if the CARE model doesn't treat stuttering, tie in the relevance
