I had no idea about the role of the SLP in aquatic therapy. I am a retired therapist and I used to work in a clinic that would offer aquatic therapy in the summer. I always thought that aquatic therapy was an OT and PT therapy.

The comment about calling security to get a patient out of the pool really turned me off at the beginning. Any therapist should have the skills to manage this type of situation without calling security which would surely escalate the situation.

A brand new topic for me - I guess I have not thought about aquatic therapy and speech therapy but this is very interesting! I'm not currently in a position where this is something I would or could do but it's great to know about this and if I'd ever have clients or friends or family members who would benefit from aquatic therapy I could help get them the support they need or at least make them aware of this option.
