This course was excellent because it provided a clear, research-based framework connecting play to language, social-emotional, and literacy development. Dr. Lisa Audet’s examples and clinical applications made complex developmental concepts easy to relate to real therapy settings. The integration of motor, social, and cognitive stages helped me design more meaningful, play-based interventions that foster engagement, communication, and learning across ages and abilities.

Lisa presented so much important information about the role of play in a clear, organized fashion with relevant examples that really gave me a deep understanding about how fundamental play is, with all the interrelated elements that can affect play and that I can work on in play. As a speech-language pathologist who is focused on play-based intervention in preschool with children with autism and other delays I appreciated this course, which put together what I have been doing and inspired me.

The course reinforced foundational play theory, emphasizing that children learn best when engagement is meaningful and developmentally appropriate. I appreciated the strategies for matching activities to a child’s play abilities across cognitive, social, and language domains. The emphasis on responding thoughtfully to different types of play, whether functional, symbolic, or exploratory, was particularly useful for fostering communication and problem-solving.

This was a fabulous series that was more than merely well-organized. It was constructed with care and appropriately sequenced. I have used a lot of play in my clinical work but did not realize how much is known about it and how powerful it can be. I was amazed to learn about the alignment of stages of play development with motor skills development and the development of social skills and language/cognitive aspects. The presenter used a sing-song voice during segment 3, but spoke well overall.

I LOVED this course. One of the best pre-recorded online courses I’ve taken in years. I found myself excited to listen to the instructor and calling out in agreement to so many of her takes on therapy and development. She reminded me of many concepts I had forgotten - esp. grass motif development related to play. She also gave me new perspectives on how narrative language aligns with expressive language (eg heaps and single word expressive stage).

I am such a fan of making therapy fun and have seen students make huge strides when they enjoy coming to speech therapy! Lisa's course provides excellent guidelines for pairing age appropriate play with students who have language and developmental disabilities! I learned so much in part two of the series where Lisa presented a hierarchy of play and how to develop interventions that balance social, motor, and language aspects of play, such as lowering motor demands increase language.

I especially enjoyed Part Four, where they explored the connection between play and reading. It really stood out to me how reading and play are not separate skills, but rather intertwined developmental processes. This perspective is especially helpful in the elementary school setting, where I work. This course gave me concrete ideas for how to choose and use books in my therapy sessions.
