Honestly, at first, I was a little unsure. But the presenter has a clear command of knowledge in this area. And I do leave feeling more equipped to implement mindfulness in therapy sessions.

At times the organization seemed a bit jolted. I would have preferred two separate courses - one about mindfulness and another about joint reading engagement. I also think client screen time is a huge factor that correlates with these skills. While I don't think this presentation should go into the depths of screen use I think parent education around media and screen use is an important part of supporting mindfulness and joint reading engagement.

This sometimes course was interesting to me, because right now I have a student who can benefit from mindful listening, so it has given me more insight on what I can do to help with engagement. Basically, he could benefit from all other mindfulness practices. The instructor helped me with more helpful ideas that I am able to practive with my student. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to sit in on this session. I am very excited!

I was looking for a way to engage reluctant young readers to increase their attention for books and I think that the skills and concepts here should help with that and so much more. Right now sustained attention support/ mindfulness could benefit so many.

In addition to being a speech-language pathologist, I am also a yoga teacher and a long time meditator. Like the instructor of this course has been doing, I have started combining yoga movements, poses, and breath work in my story times. I find improved attention and participation with the involved children. I love the ideas the instructor shared for mindful looking and listening, and the various children's book suggestions!

The actual practice of MBI techniques within the presentation allowed us to experience something that can be tricky to put into words. I found her examples helpful. I also loved that this was evidence based (of course we expect nothing less from speechpathology.com) when it might be misconstrued as too touchy-feely in our high pressure, high expectation work days.

This is such an important topic to address, especially for children in elementary ages and younger. Maintaining engagement can be very difficult with certain literacy and language activities - this presentation gave many practical ways for SLPs to improve our practice in this area.
