This was an excellent course, which provided important information in the areas of medical/physical development, sensory development, and parent-child relationship development. The information provided concerning building parent-child relationship around feeding was so valuable for effective feeding intervention with children and their families.

they spoke about the struggles and conflicts with a multiple topics, however I didn't believe they answered the questions. Example of responsive feeding strategies, yes these are good strategies for kiddos that do not have eating difficulties and we can do those things on a daily basis. But what do you do for the kiddos that struggle. Enjoyable foods probably are not nutritional and they are already eating those foods, how do you get beyond? On the 'what not" list, no alternatives were provided.

The instructors seemed very experienced and were easy to listen to. It is noticeable that they love their jobs. However, I am not sure if it is the norm in Illinois to have such organized team relationships, but in Texas, there is no way I would be able to attend my patient's MBSS or a pediatric visit. I see so many patients in a week and have to meet my productivity for my company- how would I tell my employer that I need to take an afternoon off to go to one patient's appt? I feel like the 4th segment in this series was idealistic and not very applicable to everyday therapists who see multiple children in a week. I understand working as a team is essential- and we do that via email, via phone call, and through parent report. Perhaps have a handout on a checklist of things to ask the other participants on your team, so we have an idea what we can work on to collaborate. Like- here are a list of questions you can ask the ENT, here is what to ask the pediatrician, here is what to ask the OT, here is how we can work on this.... Also, in Texas, medicaid no longer covers co-treatments so we cannot co-treat. Having multiple slides of telling us to work as a team, and having parents tell us the team approach worked for them is nice to hear, but how do we implement that? I think the course could have had more hands on, usable documents, suggestions, or ways to implement their ideas in our practice. They are obviously very good at what they do- but like I said, it is not applicable to other therapists who work home health and have to complete 30 visits per week to meet productivity demands.I feel as thought the responsive feeding method is very appropriate for many patients and they are successful with feeding when everyone gets along, but I would have liked more objective, more concrete information.

I thought it was nice how it really focuses on/reinforces the importance of the connection between the parent and child during mealtimes. I always bring this up when working with families. Kids can read a parent's energy and will respond to it so if Mom is anxious about feeding, child will be anxious.

This course is one of the best I've taken. I found the content empowering to me as both a clinician and a parent. The speakers collaboration and integration of case studies is so helpful. The speakers empathy in relating with caregivers is motivating to me. Basically, the two presenters were very pleasant and their 4 hour presentation was really about supporting relationships, building trust, and collaboration with the parents and team during the four hour time span. While I am not down playing this very important aspect of our jobs as speech pathologists, it should have been at most a 1 hour presentation. They did not present new information for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th hours of their presentation. They did demonstrate how caring they were through their videos but did not touch upon their evaluations or provide us with "data" to support their work. The 4 hours consisted of anecdotes that were told and retold. The presenters also did a lot of reading of the literature to us. That is not what I would have expected from professional presenters. The 4 hours really should have been condensed, as I stated above, into an hour presentation and not a four hour one.
