Great information re: how to use Cycles approach for ESL students! Slides and information presented was clear, concise and very well explained. I found the following quite helpful: contrasting using Cycles for English speakers vs. Spanish speakers, slide breakdowns for cycles targets of students who speak the other primary languages found in various locations in the U.S. (French, German, Tagalog, etc.), and information regarding FAI for children under 3 yrs!

I loved how the original cycles approach was compared and contrasted with the multi-lingual cycles approach. I enjoyed how the presenter went over the core shared phonemes and how those are important to target first. The presenter also laid out a clear pattern of how to target phonemes, and how to increase difficulty when success is easily achieved with a phoneme.

I liked learning about target patterns for English and Spanish. This knowledge can help me apply it to other bilingual speakers who know different languages as well. For whichever languages a student speaks, I would start targeting the shared sounds and then move toward unshared sounds, and I have an idea of how I would choose the primary and secondary targets.

This is one of the first courses I've taken in years that added new knowledge to my repertoire. I am highly familiar with Hodson's approach, having taught it myself but this course was a great refresher. The particular target choices for children from a variety of language backgrounds was helpful. It was particularly helpful that this course did not stop with information solely about Spanish speakers.
