As someone who has been plunged back into servicing early childhood populations after several years of not seeing kids that young, this really highlights the importance of what we do as SLPs in the preschool years and how maturation and development are not a guarantee of acquiring these skills for some kids. They need us!! Thank you for that reminder because even though I know it's not "just play" in therapy, it's so great to see the latest research that reinforces that.

The importance of language on academic success is something all SLPs have always known. I am so happy there is abundant research to support this. Also, I think parents and anyone around young children should understand how detrimental screen time is to language development and executive functioning.

I thought this was an amazing course, lots of great data on the impact of interactions with children, but given in a very listener-friendly way. It gave evidence to what I know many of us pre-k SLPs have seen since Covid and gave specific advice/information about it and what needs to change.

Fascinating topic that really effects almost all families, great sharing of guidelines. Her enthusiasm and presentation of the information keeps you engaged and thinking. Wow! I'm at the end of my career as an elementary school-based SLP. I have certainly seen the downward shift in language, articulation, & executive function skills in the past few years. It is so interesting to see the stats and research that back this. I had some theories around the sudden introduction of a screen based early childhood. However, your examples were eye-opening. I was especially struck by the example of a parent soothing a young child with a phone. Great presentation

Wow! One of the best videos I’ve watched in many years. As a school SLP with an increasing caseload of over 100 kids each year this does not surprise me. The data you shared was phenomenal and I can’t wait to share it with teachers, administrators and parents. We all see it and know it’s happening and you covered it so well. Can’t wait to hear about screen time in the classroom!

I am definitely seeing the negative impact of screen time even from children of "good" parents. I thought it was related to socio-economic, but determined it had to be more. This course affirms what I'm seeing and gives the research to support it. I love that it can simply be remedied with conversation plus a little more emphasis on play and EF. I love every course by Angie Neal. She is SHARP and INFORMATIVE. Thanks.

A very important topic is being addressed regarding how excessive "technoference" (screen time that does not encourage face-to-face conversation) coincides with delayed development of communication skills. One major cause, decreased executive functioning skills, is covered in depth. And how an important learning modality, play, can help advance these skills.
