I really enjoyed the collaborative presentation style for this seminar and how the 2 speakers brought in their insights from different perspectives. I also learned how 'cultural humility' may now be the more operative term than using 'cultural competence' and valued learning about the difference each one implies. The micro & macro level intervention examples were also very helpful in providing ways for SLPs and others to become more culturally humble in realistic ways at all levels.

I value the suggestions to use in order to make oneself's more culturally humble. This skill is detrimental when working in the general education setting as students come from various cultural backgrounds and their parents' may have differing beliefs from myself.

I believe cultivating a deep sense of humility - cultural, professional, and personal - can only make us better as persons and professionals who work with a very diverse clientele. In this way, we can work with and for our clients as partners and not as distant, or overbearing "all-knowing experts"...

I enjoyed the course. I found it very educational and love how positive and inclusive the instructors made it. I never thought of how important it is that we don't refer to it as cultural competency because it implies we have mastered that area. Cultural differences and values are so vast, and as human we are constantly learning new ideas and customs from everyone we encounter. Working in healthcare I have noticed how many cultural discrepancies there are d/t the biases.

I did not choose “excellent”. This course promoted prevailing perspectives of lived experience and self-identification in apparent contrast to striving toward a measurable standard. I do believe both can be achieved and that cultural humility is a subset of cultural competence. We must reflect, listen, avoid the pitfalls of ethnocentrism, continue to learn/evolve and advocate for institutional change in order to be competent at ever-increasing levels. Competency is upwardly fluid.
