The case studies were very helpful. Understanding the differences between translation and interpretation was useful as well as how complex a trained interpreter's skills are. I appreciate the references for the "60 Minutes" program with Elsie Stecker and Lindsey Snyder and I will view that.Other good references included U of Mass Special Ed for interpreters information and a reminder of the "Language Line" use. Describing aspects of dynamic evaluation vs. standardized tests was important.

I typically am happy to listen to presenters share their information, internalize what is helpful, and forget what isn't. I had a difficult time with this presenter's speaking style as it was not fluid and it sounded like there was a script being read instead of a conversation being had. I did appreciate the use of research citations as well as the outline of ASHA ethics that were used to support her speaking points. Overall helpful information, but presentation style wasn't for me.

This course provided information to participants in relation to ethical considerations for the use of language interpreters, based on ASHA Code of Ethics. And this course taught how to apply ethical standards, federal laws, and SLP standards of practice to a case study involving language interpretation on the job.

I appreciated the speaker's assurance that this was not to condemn anyone using interpreter services but to educate. I work in a clinic, and we have a lot of families, who don't often speak English, so I have to frequently use an interpreter. This was helpful in knowing how to approach these situations ethically.

Being provided with definitions and difference between an interpreter and translator, especially as the two terms are often incorrectly used interchangeably. Good to know the benefits of closed caption even for those who are able to hear and understand the language. Points made regarding meeting in advance with interpreter, getting interpreter's thoughts for presenting of info and positioning of interpreter with client. Case study, great info on using untrained interpreter and testing ELL.

I work in the schools and often times we are given an interpreter who is convenient or who is easily available. Once given the interpreter, the steps from there are different depending who you ask. I like that this course gave information about interpreting, how to improve skills using an interpreter, laid out some good steps to take with interpretation, and also on learning to advocate for what is needed ethically. I also liked the case study being applicable to situations.

i think its important that bilingual SLP's now know ...they can act as a support person and NOT an interpreter if they feel uncomfortable. Many of us bilingual SLP's have been asked to interpret in many work settings and not all spanish languages are exactly the same...so the actual job of an interpreter needs to be utilized when needed.
