This course was excellent, because the speaker provided real-life, therapy-based examples (with templates and sessions that were taped) of how to increase kiddo's knowledge of print (while focusing on combining language comprehension, word recognition, and executive functioning). I loved how the speaker showed her examples of the menus and other pictures to utilize during therapy for kiddos to match the picture of the food to the chart and how this improves literacy and executive functioning.

This course was excellent because it clearly explained the role of print knowledge as a key predictor of early reading success. The content was well organized, evidence based, and grounded in current research, including applications for children with autism. Practical strategies such as explicit print referencing and multimodal literacy activities were clearly described and immediately applicable in early childhood and clinical settings.

This presenter consistently added "uh" to her phoneme production, e.g., "guh" instead of /g/. This is a very poor practice when modeling sound production in relation to literacy skills. I found it to be very distracting in this course. She needs to be more aware of clipping her sounds when modeling letter-sound correspondence.

I appreciate all the background research that she presented and she is a dynamic speaker with a broad knowledge of the topic. I appreciated her emphasizing multi-modal learning. Good, if basic, considerations, presented in a highly engaging way. However, I continue to have questions about the author’s EBP basis with some assertions. She mentioned that /g/ and /k/ develop later due to strength, and this is an outdated myth that often leads people toward NSOMES. In reality, it takes 6x as much strength to swallow (same muscles as velar stop production) than to articulate.
