This course mentioned many strategies that I use with my traumatized students, but Ms. Roseberry-McKibbin also provided many suggestions that I will use in the future. We do not get any training working with traumatized students as SLP's working in schools. It is crucial to have this knowledge in order to help our students feel safe in order to continue to work on their goals.

These tips are going to be very helpful with my student that had a previous TBI 3 years ago. Prior to that he was also labeled as intellectual disability. He is experiencing alot of behavior issues and impulse control as a result. Liked talking about highs and lows of day, drawing out sequence of events (could be for any social situation)) and love the Idea of "Trip to The Future

This was a very practical and succinct article. I was able to take away concrete tools to use with students. However, the author seemed to be very focused on gift-giving as a way to connect. On a personal level, I mostly disagree with this, though I can see how providing helpful resources to students (like a book) could make sense in some contexts.

I am excited to use “Trip To The Future” and “Growth Mindset” strategies in sessions with my students. The author also inspired me to look into doing a book drive to collect new and gently used books. My one negative comment is related to ways to help earn the trust of students. The course discusses buying them gifts and taking them on special excursions. While I think these are very generous acts, many SLPs may not have the time or financial resources to do the same.
