Information was presented regarding the importance of diagnosing students , school age and adolescents, that struggle with grammar and syntax. Assessment procedures were suggested as well as suggestions for curriculum based interventions . A language weakness in older students may be the underlying cause for a student's struggle in school.

In reading the “20 Q” article, I found the content to be rather complex. I really did have to read and reread it multiple times to grasp the basics. I feel this course would better serve clinicians in a video format, with more examples of concept application for a better understanding of theory. I do like how the principle of language learning in the natural context rather than structured drills was emphasized.

It provides information that specifically addresses the ways that these difficulties are likely to impact academic performance that most people are not aware of and/or don't think about. In the current climate of thinking leads to the habit of reducing or significantly limiting SLP services as students approach middle school and beyond, the points made in this presentation provide a basis for reimagining services to better meet all students' needs.
