I think it is helpful to see the research that does/does not support the need for procedures for Ankyloglossia. It assists with moving forward with recommendations solely based upon challenges with articulation.

This course was excellent because it provided clear, evidence-based information on ankyloglossia, including diagnostic criteria, clinical implications, and intervention strategies. It balanced research findings with practical guidance, helping clinicians make informed decisions when assessing and treating tongue-tie, especially in infants. The structured presentation and relevance to both feeding and speech development made it highly valuable.

Not covered: Failure To Thrive (if due to or contributed to by TT), importance of individuals' ability to clean the buccal surfaces of teeth to prevent caries (only touched on), fatigue of some speakers caused by constant effort needed to move tongue against tension, connection possibility of TT to snoring/breathing ease. Evidence-based practice = a combination of research PLUS clinical judgement PLUS each patient's unique values, preferences, and circumstances.

I appreciate the emphasis on evidence quality and avoiding over-diagnosis. However, one piece of the takeaway is dismissive. While it is true that high-quality evidence is limited, lack of evidence is not equivalent to evidence of no effect (of which PTT sits squarely in that gray zone). Given the challenge of reliably assessing infant OMF, a more explicit acknowledgement of the gap b/t research limitations and caregiver reported feeding difficulties would strengthen the conclusion.
