I think people assume they understand how to teach vocabulary but this shows that we may underestimate the effect of standard vocabulary instruction especially when the child has learning deficits.

The vocabulary used should match the level of understanding of the child we treat, or then we teach them what these words mean. It's important to realize that everyone is different and so is their understanding of vocabulary.

Research model was weak. How do you make conclusions with 2 or 3 subjects.Explicit instruction:Mnemonics would definitely help comprehension. You introduced the word Enclosure. Then used the word barrier. You assumed the child understood the word barrier. An additional technique to teach the word ENCLOSURE. Say the bunnies are CLOSED- oh no.They can’t get out they are enclosed in the enclosure. Use a picture of the box, show how the bunnies can’t get out.Tell a simple story easily retold

I appreciated the first portion of the course where the speaker talked about what does not work for vocabulary acquisition, the Matthew effect, and the difficulties our students with language disorders have. However, I felt that the second portion of the course where she outlined her study did not give me confidence in her methodology.
