This course had a lot of great discussion on how SLPs should handle the gray area of diet modification/patients rights. However it feels like a huge opportunity was missed to support SLP’s by showing example documentation. “We are all licensed SLPs” was reason given not to do that. How wonderful it would be to support new clinicians in showing an example of how to professionally document some of those situations! A template even, that could be modified. Maybe another course!

Content, delivery, sources and pacing were excellent and relatable. I think the case study was a perfect example of patient we see on a daily basis. The step by step discussion is extremely valuable for clinician's at any point in their SLP career. There is plenty take-away for SLP in any setting, including acute care. I highly recommend this course to clinician's in any setting!

I know very little about this setting and subject, and now feel like I have a good overview of the complexities. These "gray" areas are not entirely unique to swallowing and SNF care teams, too, which helps inform otherpatient-centered plans and situations with co-occurring morbidities. Excellent presenter, real-life scenarios, and very comprehensive, but condensed presentation. Thank you so much!

Loved the information and how was presented. Especially interested in the Care Plan process. The productivity standards at SNFs and NHs don't allow for conversations with various non therapy team members other than short interactions in the hallways. How can team time be supported in a way that includes productivity. Billing allows for X amount of time in patient conference, but will only accommodate one to two therapies for X number of minutes.

This course has very practical information including the important direction to continue with therapy seeking to find creative alternatives for safety if a patient is, for example, not interested in thick liquids or a diet modification rather than old thinking which may have had us signing off reporting patient "refusing." This course highlights the importance of putting our values aside and making the patient's values important and including them in the decision making process.
