The course lays out a lot of general, basic knowledge for the Cycles Approach. I was glad it also showed that in some situations a modified program would be needed, as most school-based SLPs don't have the time/# of sessions to follow through with the standard program appropriately, in my opinion. Also, most therapy is done in small groups making addressing each child's targets effectively more difficult.

Descriptors of how to begin a Cycles Approach to speech production. Also, the presenter's explanation of WHY an SLP would introduce /s/ clusters vs, singleton /s/ AND the reason to facilitate exposure to liquids, despite the developmental appropriateness of production to children with severe speech sound disorders. I have always been perplexed by the fostering of later developing sound production when the acquisition was not age appropriate BUT I understand the purpose of exposure now.

The reference materials are useful and I plan on following up with them. This was my introduction to the Cycles approach and I found it very interesting. I'll plan to take more courses about it here on speechpathology.com and talk to the SLPs in my district to find out if they know about it.

Interesting theory of cycles as well as where to begin with severely unintelligible children. Working with early intervention, after a child begins to use language, their articulation is usually negatively impacted by the delays. I have found even with children under 3, if sibilants are stimulable, I will try to elicit them.

Dr. Prezas presented an interesting remediation program to be used with students who have intelligibility problems. The program is based on best practices and purportedly increases generalization of phoneme production in a student's speech. I am interested in in trying to some of these principles with some of my students who exhibit intelligibility problems.
