As a professor at the University of Akron, Yvonne Gillette has built an AT/AAC Center as a place where faculty, students, and members of the community can learn about technology for communication. The Center functions on and off campus always with the objective of building environmental communication skills individuals can use in daily life, often using technology. Yvonne has conducted workshops, taught classes, delivered presentations at conferences, supervised student clinicians, and written in the areas of severe communication disabilities, augmentative communication, and assistive technology.
Yvonne is a Fellow of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). She holds an MA and PhD from The Ohio State University. Her most recent published work is with colleagues in the AT Collaborative, which explored the use of personal data assistance features in cell phones with individuals who have significant disabilities.
