Although this course was geared more towards middle school or high school students, I am confident that I can take many of the ideas discussed and use them with my elementary aged AAC users. In addition to using these strategies with my AAC users, the material was a good refresher for my DLD students who do not use AAC. I especially appreciated the last thing the presenter said, indicating that although we can't do it all, we can all do a little more. Thank you for the great information!

She gives several examples of teaching skills as processes/procedures so that we don't focus on having students memorize things. That way engagement remains high and they continue to build on knowledge with our scaffolding. I liked seeing the examples of how there's a difference in how AAC users language generated toward us may mislead us into thinking that they have adequate language to access curriculum and literacy, but this may not be the case as shown with their inability to respond.
