This course was special and unique in that the instructor was able to share her experience as a DDH individual and as a professional educational audiologist. The instructor did very well with explaining the process of supporting the parent of a DDH child and role of each supporting professional.

I liked the example where you said you could hear things for the first time. I have military related hearing loss. I was diagnosed with "significant" hearing loss (greater than 45dB) at age 51 during the annual military physical. I could see the deterioration from year to year. Anyhow, I was sent to the VA audiologist, tested, and fitted with hearing aids. The first thing I heard when I left was the crunching of leaves beneath my feet. I had forgotten that sound. Very important info.

I worked with the D/HH population as an educator and as an SLP for a large part of my career. So I knew a lot of the general information, however seeing it through the eyes of an Audiologist and as one with a hearing loss was very enlightening. I like that she shared personal information as a hearing impaired child/adult and she shared her parents' perspectives.

it was a good review of things I already know/use, but also provided many roads to share with parents to obtain important information & professionals or mentors or resources---information was clear and organized--and as I word primarily with children and families it is nice to learn about organizations and resources that can help families choose what works best for their family to help their family thrive

I work at a State School for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Too many of our students have been taught that they have "failed" because they did not benefit from the Listening and Spoken Language/Auditory Verbal route. Having someone state the obvious - One size does not fit all - was extremely important to hear!
