I have a better understanding after watching this course on different medical professionals that also work along side to support the deaf and Hard of Hearing. It was great to hear different story examples of DHH, and how families deal with grief. There are families that are in denial which is one of the stages of grief. Parents are in denial, of their child being deaf or hard of hearing. This was a good course to watch, and to know more in depth on how to support families with deaf & DHH.

I liked that she mentioned different resources for families to utilize if their child is identified with hearing loss.

It was nice to hear her perspective as an Audiologist with a hearing loss. Her experience from childhood to adulthood, and her mom's perspective. I am a CODA and have also been an SLP for 40 years, so I have my own perspectives. I worked with the DHH population for the first 30 years of my career and might be working with them again soon. This course helped me to think about working with my students again, how their families may be dealing with loss due to the child's hearing loss and resources.

The case examples and the presenter's personal history made this course excellent. These really made me think about how I talk to parents and made me think about how I may approach/ interact with them in a more fluid manner and not so "by the book". Families need to be heard and understood as part of the therapy process.

I enjoyed Dr. Hu's course. Dr. Hu's and her mother's personal journey is very interesting and informative. This course made me aware of the different professionals/roles that help suport and work with deaf and hard of hearing children. It was also a reminder of the 5 stages of grief that a parent or caretaker could experience when receiving their child's diagnoses.

I assumed that there would be more specific strategies to support the deaf and HH patient/student, for example over-articulation, face-to-face view for better lip reading, sitting in a well-lighted room for better view of the speaker's face, etc.
