Very important information. I feel like it's so much with regard to the laws that I need to review the notes many times before I can grasp it more completely. My population is 2-9 to 4 years old. Initial preschool evaluations have specific needs that I wish could be covered more in depth; many alternative tools don't apply (i.e. work samples, narrative language). Discussing educational impact is a specific challenge for initial preschool evaluations.

I actually have many of the dynamic assessment tools she spoke about including the SLAM story cards and the NLM stories as well. I also do a professional development presentation on SUGAR. So I am familiar with many of these assessment tools but I haven't used them consistently in assessment. The preventer gave amazing arguments why I need to include these in my assessments along side my standardized assessments.

The presenter clearly explains what an SLP needs to understand in their role as the speech pathologist as part of the special education team. It explains how to choose assessments that are standardized as well as the many other ways to assess a student's language, speech and pragmatic skills and how to determent special education eligibility. The presenter gives many helpful handouts and free resources. This was an overall excellent presentation.

I love how the presenter gave a review of part 1 and throughout part 2, made references to the information cited in part 1. I loved learning about the assessment methods that would be helpful to use for African American children. I learned that the Gullah Geechee language came from African American culture; I did not know White people spoke as well. This was a great presentation.

Great presenter! I love all of this information about dynamic assessments and truly pinpointing a child's needs-not determining eligibility based on numbers on a specific standardized test. I work at the middle school level, and this is particularly crucial for determining if a student continues to need the specialized instruction of a SLP.
