Great to have some assessment tools to go to.As with Part 1, I liked to emphasis on Mental Imagery comprehension and narrative descriptive skills.Great description of teaching new words to increase them being encoded into long-term memory. I have not worked a lot with reading comprehension; however, it is so important to comprehensive language development and academic success.

This is a paradigm shift in my understanding of Language, I did not know we didn't use expressive/receptive language any more. I had to watch it twice, and I still might watch the first session again, I feel like she glossed over this part, and I really need to understand it to make changes with my school psychologist and evaluation team members. My standardized tests still refer to expressive/receptive language skills, so I need to update everything.

Lots of great information, well explained, although still conceptually dense. Lots of information to deconstruct and consider each point. I do wish that there were citations added. For example, I am intriqued by "Children who engage in at least 40 conversational turns before age two (i.e., between 18-24 months), even when they don't have much language yet, have IQ scores roughly 35% higher than those who didn't engage in that many conversational turns ten years later"-whose work?

The wealth of information that was shared! - Recommendations and importance of what to look for during testing, beyond just standardized testing - Loved learning strategies to teach students how to truly "know" a word- Being told that the elusive list of words to be teaching at each grade level does not actually exist! And understanding why!- Hearing about the importance of mental imagery, which I already teach, but now recognizing how powerful it can be

I've taken many continuing education courses on SpeechPathology.com. I felt the instructor did an excellent job of blending research with practical recommendations for instruction that could be very useful in clinical practice. Often, the courses are skewed too far one way but this course was very balanced.
