Working for a nonprofit dedicated to aphasia this is impactful to bring to our community- we are focused on educating others on how to best help those with an aphasia diagnosis in all levels of care - and we want to provide them with resources, education and support each and every step of the way.

Good review on what the aphasia patient needs in order to motivate them. Also, how important it is the instill hope in the patient and to help them understand that there will be progress and there will continue to be progress with their communication skills in the future. To teach them about aphasia recovery and brain plasticity and not just do the therapy. And to listen to them and what would recovery be to them.

This course was fantastic! I would recommend this course to all SLP's, particularly the "new" SLPs, as I found it to be the missing link between classic textbook learning and real-world application. The presenters demonstrated how multifaceted aphasia is and every situation is unique.

It is critical that people remember the person that they're treating not just the treatment and the injury. So many clinicians get caught up in the bells and whistles or the non-human aspects and it is very disappointing to see. Thanks for providing this great resource.

I LOVED this course! It should be required viewing in all Communication Disorders curricula, initially and then before we send out SLPs into the world. I loved hearing from the patients themselves; it was invaluable to hear their perspectives on what works and what does not (which varies of course, by patient).

I'm truly impressed and almost moved to tears by the Aphasia patient's tireless work at not only their own person recoveries but in helping SLP's understand the isolation an Aphasia diagnosis can place a patient in and on the monumental importance of immediately enveloping the family members and carers into the healing process.

I loved hearing from a group of survivors who had differing perspectives. As we know, each person with aphasia is unique and it's helpful for those early in their careers to realize that when providing information, it's not helpful to provide absolutes. Listening to our patients over many years is how we become seasoned skilled clinicians.

It was important to hear the reminder to give patients with aphasia hope but what was even more powerful were the human examples of why patients should have hope. With hard work, some people may redevelop their language skills to a much higher level. Also, reminders about the importance of involving caregivers, friends, and family in training for communication, individualized for the person with aphasia, were key in sending the message home.
