The material was concise and easy to follow. The presenter did not beat around the bush regarding issues in the way various therapies have been provided for a while. She addressed the issues and provided recommendations on how to provide neurodiversity affirming care in the future.

This will directly impact how I write IEP goals in the future for my Autistic students. I am already re-thinking how I should approach therapy for my autistic students and how to stand up for them in IEP meetings. This was very educational, enlightening, and helpful information.

It depicts a quantum shift in thinking about autism or neurodiversity as a difference rather than a deficit and shifts the responsibility for determining goals and outcomes to the neuro-diverse person, and their family, community.

The presenter's lived personal experiences and research-based approaches to therapy goals and outcomes provided a solid platform on which to base our SLP practices. I feel better equipped to effectively advocate for the equitable educational and community access, acceptance, and appreciation of our students.

I can only image the heartbreak and guilt of family of a severely autistic child when being told that they must accept the "normal play" of their child and fight the world to accept their behavior too. This is a class in activism.

I “got” the information the speaker conveyed, and I could tell that she was an excellent therapist, child advocate and team player. I really got most of that from the Q and A at the end. I will definitely read her other course on this website.I would have appreciated if she separated the factual information from the political advocacy and personal diatribe, although understandable, I am very tired of talk of racism, ableism, intersectionality etc etc Recognize her freedom of speech.

Applicable to all neurodiverse people; very interesting perspective and she is right! All too often, we try to normalize behavior, take away supports and push goals that are not in our clients' best interests. This session includes valuable ideas for consideration as we rethink our assessment and treatment protocols.

WOW! This sort of shakes the ABA tree and much of what we teach and were taught. History on Lovass was frightening. The concepts of neurodivergence being all encompassing is great. The dehumanizing effects of actions, treatment and language models currently in use. Would be great to have a rebuttal, or better a debate between her and ABA proponents.

This course was very eye opening for me! I see so many things that I have been doing in the name of therapy/"helping" a child with autism that actually are detrimental. I thought that I was very accepting of students with autism but I see now that a lot of what I was taught in school and my practices are not accepting at all and can actually be traumatizing. This course has made me want to be more accepting of all students with neurodivergence.

As a parent, SLP, and working in an ABA clinic with active, positive collaboration with BCBAs, I found myself in conflict with select aspects of this info. I do see the trauma in prior ABA with older students, but the tide has turned in my setting with younger students. Activities such as potty training have been made possible by ABA where other areas did not. I see both sides of the positive and negative.
