BRAVA Ms. Gallaher ! Finally information that showcases OUR Responsibility as Speech Pathologists to provide a holistic approach ( mind-body-spirit) for our patient's with MCI and how this approach is crucial for both patients and especially their caregivers! Mild cognitive decline is not inevitable with age. It is treatable and reversible (in some cases) with the correct life style changes customized for BOTH patient and "chosen family"!

I support caregiver goals to improve outcomes in patients in their natural settings. I am glad that this is at the forefront for those with mild cognitive impairments. Sometimes MCI gets overlooked or seen just as a normal part of aging by family and caregivers. I liked the cuing strategies discussed as well as the resources given to help caregivers.

This course provided valuable information regarding caregiver education. Although, I work with pediatric patients and do not work with memory impaired clients, much of this course content can also be applied to the parents/caregivers of my pediatric patients, especially the information related to caregiver support. In addition, having been on the other side (caregiver of a parent with dementia /not the therapist), I agree 100% that caregiver education and involvement is very important.
