The presenter provided excellent information explaining the correlation between speech sound production and literacy skills. I didn't realize the significant impact that early intervention for speech sound production disorders had on reading outcomes.

The knowledge the presenter had! Many therapists do not screen for PA with an SSD and/or realize the huge link between SSD and literacy! Great information!!

I feel like I this really refreshed me on my role with regards to literacy. I also have found that I don't know as much about Dyslexia as I would like. This course was so helpful in refreshing me on most current practices and ways to help bridge the gap between speech sound production and reading skills.

The content and the presenter. We are seeing so many children who are having issues with phonological awareness. Several of these children were also diagnosed with CAS. As a result of this course I see the correlation. Educational issues as a result of COVID were thought to be part of the problem. However, I am also working at a preschool and will work closely with the teacher in serving children who are exhibiting atypical SSD's.

Presenter did an excellent job explaining the relationship between speech sound production and reading skills. It was helpful that she included what dyslexia is NOT(commonly thought of as reversing letters and a visual problem) as well as what it is. It was also important that she indicated that a child can be identified as dyslexic in kindergarten based on poor sound production as well as decreased phonological awareness abilities. A lot of good info in 1 hour course.

I found this sentence to be at the least insensitive and perhaps unprofessional: "Surprising, because this weakness exists in the presence of normal intelligence"-Clinical signs should not have personal value ratings.-Weakness is a negative value judgement. Some have theorized dyslexia occurs because written language is arbitrary and a new developing skill for humans.-Normal...really? We are making huge strides toward inclusion on all fronts. This is a divisive term.

I would have rated this course a 5, but I gave it a 4 because there was some confusion/misnaming of terms in my opinion. For instance, to say that reading is comprised of Word Recognition + Listening Comprehension is really kind of misleading labeling. At the very least, decoding needs to be one of those terms, and is NOT the same as Word Recognition. It should be that reading is comprised of Decoding + Comprehension. Listening Comprehension is really distinct from Reading Comprehension.
