personally, i liked in the beginning where actual examples in quotes were given of what people say to others to try to make them feel better (for ex: there's always a silver lining). It's true, who is that helping?? Felt like I could relate and that made the course interesting.

I like the approach of the speaker in beginning with empathy. It gave me new thought to exactly what we are asking families/clients to do in giving recommendations. "Recommendations" sounds very innocent and simple, but it truly is asking the listener to make changes that often are very difficult {lifestyle changes).

Clear organization and examples. However, I felt as though I was listening to a defensive parent for the course entirety and would have liked more suggestions about how to deal with emotionally charged parents having unreasonable expectations. How does a busy SLP doing their best with the time and resources given deal with being berated and attacked by parents for not delivering the sun, moon and stars to their child?

Great information! I loved that this presenter is not only a speech language pathologist/therapist, but she is also a parent of a child with severe medical conditions and special needs. She gives insight to how we view things as therapists and need to empathize and think about how parents are viewing recommendations we make, how we present things to them and how they are receiving it.
