The information from both a personal and professional perspective was so helpful. The strategies and MI techniques, with examples, are so useful and applicable in any work setting. As SLPs we don't receive enough training and practice with these concepts. Invaluable!

Just giving examples and going through times where meetings and recommendations could be difficult will help myself feel more comfortable approaching them in the future. Every parent wants their child to succeed and disabilities could be heart-breaking for parents. This presentation gave ideas and strategies on how to approach families and come up with ways to help them. I enjoyed hearing about how every individual has strengths and abilities and it's important for families to hear that.

I really enjoyed all the real world examples, especially in the field of speech pathology. I also appreciated you sharing as a parent how it made you I do think sometimes it is difficult to think of everything a parent is truly going through outside the diagnosis..

The presenter's perspective as both a clinician and parent of a child with special needs made her a good choice to present the topic. I was encouraged to hear that the profession is moving away from a deficits-focused approach towards a strengths-based model. Her differentiation between empathy and sympathy as well as description of the stages of change were helpful. She provided useful advice for speaking with different audiences including clients, families, and colleagues.
