The speaker needs to work on being a little more "fluid" with the presentation. There were several instances where she was flubbing up the presentation and it was just distracting. She also talked over the only example of using contextual therapy in a treatment session, which would've been nice to hear.

This course was very good because it clearly explained complex neuroscience concepts like neuroplasticity, mirror neurons, and BDNF in a practical and engaging way. The lessons connected theory to real-life applications in therapy and rehabilitation, helping me better understand how the brain adapts and recovers. The content was organized, evidence-based, and easy to follow, making learning both enjoyable and meaningful.

I appreciate digging into the neurophysiology of this topic and I also appreciated the examples of contextualized/decontextualized activities. I think as speech therapists we can often be guilty of targeting goals in a decontextualized way.

By integrating neuroplasticity principles, this course will help me to design interventions that strengthen preserved neural pathways and promote functional communication in meaningful, real-life contexts for people living with different forms of dementia. The information presented in this seminar can empower SLPs to deliver more personalized and effective therapy approaches to increase communication ability and quality of life for people living with neurodegenerative diseases.

The information about Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). I was unaware and unfamiliar with this term before this class. Having learned about BDNF, I can understand how it increases and decreases relative to certain factors, especially the effects of chronic stress and enriched environment. I will use the ambient factors list during my evaluation to include recommendations for additional services and developing home therapy programs.

The material of this course was well explained and gave really strong support of neuroplasticity concepts for health and diseased/injured brains. It also really helps make the argument that that everyone can benefit from SLP services to some degree and the importance of social interaction and enriched environments for all. As an SLP in a SNF/TCU, this is strong evidence for us to be pushing for social activites, social meals in dinning room, and group therapy sessions to support our patients.
