The references used in this article are 25+ years old. The information was still relevant, but a more recent article would’ve provided more relatable information (i.e. use of technology in the work place and its interference on home life).

Thank you for the early warning about graphic content. I have always associated physical pain with a physical ailment, like a pulled or knotted muscle, or some type of injury. I will now do more self-reflection to assess my mental/emotional state before jumping straight to a physical cause.

I love the advice to look at attendance as a temperature gage rather than a lack of commitment and encouraging follow-up when an employee is struggling. When I developed a mental illness, one of my professors told me, "Turn in your assignments whenever you want." I failed my other classes that semester. Passing one reminded me I wasn't incapable, just struggling with exhaustion. I will never forget her kindness. This changed how I saw my clients' attendance, too. We never have the full picture.

The instructor did give a trigger warning but what she shared was still graphic and unexpected. I think some people may related very well to this approach and appreciate it, while others may be uncomfortable with this level of personal sharing, as well as the religious overtones. This course may be a good introduction for those who are unfamiliar with or feel stigma about mental health topics and need some ideas and support about how to better explore self-care.

Her strength is admirable, and she lives the self-care recommendations she makes, because she knows. My heart breaks for her, because I know deep grief never goes away, we learn how to continue to live through it. Thank you.

While I feel like this course gave good information regarding self-care, I wish there was a trigger warning for the very traumatic story that the presenter shared midway through the presentation. While I empathize with her incredibly difficult situation and trauma, I felt that it didn't need to be part of the course. Additionally, personally, the information regarding reaching out to faith based leaderships felt misguided as not all people share those beliefs or resources.

Learning about the different types of trauma and giving me validation on how I feel (emotionally and physically) at the end of my work day...that it isn't just me and this is a real issue within professions that work with humanity. My husband doesn't understand why every day when I come home I NEED an hour to decompress, alone, in the quiet to reflect and recharge so I can be present for my own family and their needs without my work life bleeding into and staining my personal life.
