In working with children and families as a developmental therapist, I might become burdened by the amount of developmental delay that a child may be experiencing or by apparent needs of the family. This training helped me understand what residual effects I might experience and how to mitigate being impacted by trauma.

The instructor did give a trigger warning but what she shared was still graphic and unexpected. I think some people may related very well to this approach and appreciate it, while others may be uncomfortable with this level of personal sharing, as well as the religious overtones. This course may be a good introduction for those who are unfamiliar with or feel stigma about mental health topics and need some ideas and support about how to better explore self-care.

Great information that was presented in such a way that makes it functional and memorable. Thanks to Kathy for sharing her struggles, she made it very real. Her strength is admirable, and she lives the self-care recommendations she makes, because she knows. My heart breaks for her, because I know deep grief never goes away, we learn how to continue to live through it. Thank you.

More so than for the specific educational information which was very meaningful and helpful, but for my utmost respect for the strength and love for others it took to address and offer this course to help others recognize and how to better care for themselves and in turn others.

While I feel like this course gave good information regarding self-care, I wish there was a trigger warning for the very traumatic story that the presenter shared midway through the presentation. While I empathize with her incredibly difficult situation and trauma, I felt that it didn't need to be part of the course. Additionally, personally, the information regarding reaching out to faith based leaderships felt misguided as not all people share those beliefs or resources.

Learning about the different types of trauma and giving me validation on how I feel (emotionally and physically) at the end of my work day...that it isn't just me and this is a real issue within professions that work with humanity. My husband doesn't understand why every day when I come home I NEED an hour to decompress, alone, in the quiet to reflect and recharge so I can be present for my own family and their needs without my work life bleeding into and staining my personal life.

This course has taught me the importance of self-care. I love that the instructor said that you need to be intentional in taking care of your spirit, mind, body, and emotions. It was interesting to hear the instructor’s personal experience with trauma and how it affected her. I thought it was helpful that she shared what strategies she chose to deal with her trauma. I highly recommend to all providers.

The presenter spoke with conviction and from a personal place, and that was very inspiring to me. I recently (well, almost a year ago) lost my mother. I have carried the weight of that loss to my profession everyday since, and it has allowed me to be more compassionate in ways I did not understand before, but it also took a toll on my emotions, spiritual, and even mental well being. I have learned to cope and work toward healing. This presentation validated me and informed thoroughly.
