The course provided insightful information and recommendations to ensure SLPs consider each patient's unique cultural experiences. While most of the information included in this course was focused upon children, the concepts are easily applicable to the adult population, my area of expertise. The guidance provided for assessment considerations and use of an interpreter were especially helpful to consider in my private practice and in the training of new employees.

The opening question led to information to support the answer as well as clinical examples. I appreciated the self reflection as to how we 'feel' and what we 'show' towards others and how this may impact engagement with clients, families, and other professionals/interpreters. Then based on our engagement, the presented information gave a solid foundation to continue to grow in our cultural competence with added resources.

As a retired SLP in the schools, it was good to reflect on how the standards have changed over the years. In the past, when I met with bilingual parents, translators were not offered. It always left me feeling uneasy that they were not given information in their native language. I am happy to learn there is a code of ethics for this now and that translators are being more and more implemented into IEP meetings.
