Question

Are there any affordable devices or software that an individual can use at home, without a speech pathologist present, in order to practice correct speaking and enunciation while getting feedback (like a wave pattern on a screen that one could learn to in

Answer

It really depends on what exactly you are planning to concentrate on when practicing your speech. There are a variety of speech programs available that can be used at home for practicing correct speech production. Most of them focus on a specific area of speech, for example articulation, accent reduction, or fluency. All of which could fit into the category which you stated, "practicing correct speaking and enunciation". Therefore it is a little difficult to recommend on specific program. Ideally it would be best to get this recommendation from your speech pathologist.

However, one software program produced by Bungalow Software probably has the most varied ability and seems to meet the specifics that you were requesting (waveform and visual feedback). The program is called SpeechPrism and is available for home use. You can view this program at www.bungalowsoftware.com/speechprism.htm. This software can be purchased for $149.50. There are specific computer requirements that are necessary to run this software and you might want to look into the list of requirements found on the Bungalow website prior to purchasing this software.
