It was more informative for ALS than PD. I don't see a lot of ALS patients so I need a periodic review. I work in home health; at least 75% of my caseload is PD and what used to be called Parkinson Plus syndromes. I recommend The Breather over EMST b/c it addresses both inhale and exhale. Also, by the time I see these patients they are not usually ambulatory and are too weak to use the EMST (burst of air vs steady inhale/exhale against resistance.) I do also prefer Speak Out to LSVT.

Very in-depth exploration of dysphagia-related topics for ALS and Parkinson’s. Wish a little more time had been spent on the Parkinson’s portion so it could have gotten the same level of treatment as ALS.

I found this course to be an excellent review of the 3 characteristics of oropharyngeal dysphagia in individuals with neurodegenerative disease. I found the discussion for assessment and therapeutic interventions of ALS and Parkinson's disease to be quite thorough. I also found the discussion regarding the focus on the patient's and caregiver's needs to be very important when providing management strategies and treatment planning.
