Although I do not currently work with adults, I do have a pediatric client with a degenerative condition that affects him in many of the ways described in this training. Considering his unique diagnosis and its characteristics, I will apply the principles discussed in this training where applicable to target his swallow and saliva management function.

I really took this course for more information on dysphagia with Parkinson's. Very disappointed that so little time was dedicated to that. I have had 1 ALS referral during my 22 year career and I see Parkinson's patients very very frequently. Maybe consider a separate Parkinson's course as I would like to delve a little deeper.

Excellent overview of ALS, and to a lesser extent Parkinson's in terms of gaining a knowledge base about treating these populations. Small clinical anecdotes about what she has observed in her clinic were also appreciated and contributed to her strong expertise in this area. I appreciate her candidness about what the evidence is and is not showing in regards to some treatment programs.

For me the ALS information was most helpful. I also appreciated the fact that the evidence for "dysphagia exercises" in this population is not necessary. Modification of textures and avoidance as long as possible of puree textures was good information. I usually based my texture recommendations along with the client/patient's wishes. I felt this was affirming of that decision.

The presentation was well organized and easy to follow. I appreciate the guidelines for evaluation and management for patient and caregiver education. I just recently saw a patient who has been diagnosed with ALS after at least 2 years of onset of symptoms. The patient also presented with dementia. At the time I did not realize that fronto-temporal dementia can occur with ALS. This patient is in her late 50's. Thank you.
