I am a NICU CM. I'm following a baby who has a diagnosis of Ischemic Brain Encephalopathy, and had a G tube prior to hospital discharge. Can you advise what steps parents should take regarding encouraging nippling? At this time, I have encouraged parent

You were correct in referring this family to a regional center that is capable of providing coordinated and comprehensive follow-up care. Children with this diagnosis can present very differently and will require a team of specialists who can develop a plan to specifically address this child's needs. Therefore, it is impossible in this forum to provide specific recommendations about a child with this diagnosis. I would also use caution when you make general recommendations to families such as "giving a pacifier or encourage stimulation and suckling" that the child is able to tolerate this type of stimulation and the family has been trained to provide this support in a manner that is best for the child.
