I appreciate that you shared the story of the boy who said that "ADHD" was used as a derogatory term in his school to mean that someone is stupid. I think this happens more than we know. It is so important to dispel these myths & educate all of those around us. I feel like we spend a lot of time educating parents & teachers, but often forget to educate the neurotypical children/peers. These are the people that our kiddos spend the most time with and who often have the greatest influence.

I feel the content was up to date and reviewed current evidence to support claims; as well as discussed myths and points of confusion that are prevalent around this topic, which is helpful because it can be difficult to determine fact from opinion around this diagnosis.

So much good background information provided. Excellent breakdown of treatment strategies but I wish there had been more discussion re: effective treatments vis-á-vis executive functioning deficits in ADHD. I understand that it would have required additional time beyond the allotted 60 minutes but it would have been worth it! Thank you!

I disagree with your answer to question #2. The diagnosis of ADHD can be considered but will usually not be confirmed until a child is around six years old. If you are waiting until the child is 12 to make a diagnosis you have lost valuable time to help the child.

Lots of good information presented. I did not realize that ADHD was the most genetically influenced disorder. I especially like how presenter discussed strengths and supports. To often I think people try to dismiss these kiddos as behavior kids or lazy. I found it especially interesting that the motor cortex matured fasted for the ADHD youth compared to typical peers. At that the average delay for brain was 3 years

The presenter did a good job of explaining ADHD, the types of ADHD, and the ADHD brain. The strategies given were rudimentary. She does not cite sources for claims such as "there is no credible evidence that using stimulant medications to treat ADHD in childhood leads to an addictive disorder..." There are major flaws in the methodology used in many psychotropic medication studies. Citing would allow us to examine the validity of the claim as there is evidence of higher addiction rates in ADHD.
