Having recently experienced a hospice situation and subsequent death of a loved one, I'm not sold that an SLP's involvement would've added any significant benefit over the hospice nurses and other staff. Was curious to read this, but seems like an overreach.

I enjoyed the stress put on WHY most referrals in EOL land on dysphagia management and how this misconception should reduce by providing education to the medical/rehab team, family, and patient ... Thus, incorporating more referrals for communication at EOL and providing patients with this integrity and autonomy at this stage of life.

I have treated many EOL patients for dysphagia and always do oral care goals and swallow protocols and training. I've often been one of the only medical professionals spending significant time with these patients outside of the hospice/nrsg team and develop methods of communicating with them just for dysphagia Tx . The goal options here will greatly help in documenting and reimbursement for the EOL communication strategies I implement and give me direction in Tx goals .

This course focused on end of life care for adult patients and my caseload is primarily pediatric. I took this course for personal reasons because my family faced end of life decisions for my mother recently. I do wish I had taken this course months before he passed away. It would have been so helpful. I do think that this course content can also be applied to pediatrics, especially since I receive referrals for children who are terminally ill on occasion. This is great information to have.
