The instructor gave very good resources and ideas that will promote generalization of intervention into real world areas where our intervention will promote skills that enable students to prepare for outside experiences they ordinarily wouldn't receive training in until after school. Also a lot of information about different programs that can be used to simulate real world activities that we can go in and help students discover what they need to learn in order to be successful in jobs later.

I wanted to know how to address my students' communication skills using a more functional approach, and how to help my students generalize their communication skills learned in a therapy setting to other settings outside of a classroom setting. Also, I wanted to know how to explain that students should not stay in a small group setting forever, that moving them along the continuum of functional communication is the key. Students should be assisted to apply communication skills.

The course provided many real-life examples of her implementing the recommendations taught in the course. It was helpful to see the variety of ways in which students can be supported in natural, contextualized therapy. However, there are some limitations to the recommendations posed in the training as many SLPs have time constraints, heavy caseloads, and limited resources. It would have been useful to see scenarios or schedules that take these limitations into consideration.
