I really appreciated her honesty, because everything she mentioned about her initial lack of confidence in assisting or treating patients with bathroom/showering/dressing tasks is exactly what I have told myself; I can't, I'm not trained, it's outside of my scope. I will speak with my therapy team and CNAs to find out if we have communication/language breakdowns getting in the way of patient care. I also appreciated her honesty on those tough spots I think we all find ourselves in now and then.

What a fun class! Thanks for diving in to ADL's without worrying that other disciplines will think you are showing them up. I work in home health and have helped patients do so many things that seemed out of my scope of practice, but were necessary. I'm going to start documenting the help I provide if it involves communication.

I enjoyed this course from Adria. From the beginning of the presentation, it was evident how passionate she is about working with this population. She started the class with an informative overview by defining dementia, labeling as well as describing the four most common types, and highlighting the cognitive deficits present in the disease. During the session, she covered interventions, goal writing, and barriers. In, addition, her incorporation of visuals aided in illustrating concepts.

I can relate so much with this! I’m so happy to see that I have been attempting so many of these situations already. My experience with this started during Covid when therapy was put on hold, and instead some of our rehab dept completed an accelerated/in promtpu CNA course to pick up CNA shifts and I seemed to be the last resort for a gentleman who would not shower.. thankfully HE got to a point of washing up at his bedside, which was a huge win for him. Thank you for the tools in my toolkit!

I liked the overview of dementia and the connection between communication and ALDS. Reviewing the interventions was good and establishing the skilled terms to use in documentation. Goals should focus on the the functional deficts and underlying impairments not the interventions. There are many ways to get someone to follw 1 and 2 step commands. the in order to connects the life particpation piece for the client. Good review. Short and simple and new terms to remember to use when documenting

I have been a SLP for 28 years and I can honestly say that this is one of the VERY best CEU courses that I have ever taken. I now work with mainly older adults in SNFs, LTACHs, and in acute care. This course will help me in every one of these settings. Adria is a great presenter and I would love to see her present other courses. This has inspired me to put together an inservice to train some of our staff about using good communication in the bathroom or during ADLs. Thanks so much Adria!
