This subject has such an impact on children (my own and the ones I serve at school or in the clinic) and it's important to help parents and caregivers (and even the child) understand the implications. I appreciate being armed with information that I can pass along to my clients when the time is right.

Some of this felt hard to apply because I don't have any control over my students' screen time at home. I did like the ideas for bringing up some of the negative effects of screen time with parents in neutral ways. I am seeing in my students all of the effects mentioned in this article.

She did a nice job explaining not only the cons, but how screen time can be used in a positive way. So many young parents feel guilty if their child has a delay in communication and then feel like the delay is "their fault". Having suggestions to give them for positive screen time use is just as important as telling them how damaging it can be.

YIKES! The statistics gave me chills! I found myself relating more to this course as a parent than as an SLP. As an elementary school SLP, I was feeling like the damage has already been done, but then the presenter explained about ongoing brain development. I really appreciate the distinction between using screens purposefully and passively. I am definitely going to make more effort to have those "hard" conversations about screentime.
