This was a great article; however, the claims that masks "do not" impact the development of articulation and phonological awareness are entirely false. Research confirms that masks decrease the volume of the speaker's voice which in turn simulates a hearing loss to the listener. It is widely known that optimal hearing is essential to the development of articulation and phonological awareness.

I am sure many school based SLP's have taken this course, but if you haven't you must take it. Hopefully this information has been and will also be shared with parents, preschool teachers and teachers. I think it is also extremely important information to share with new parents that we all know. Screens will not be going away.

The presenter did an excellent job of explaining the complex and making it accessible. Tech's effect on the brain was well argued but find the correlation of the rise in autism with increased technology use an implication that's too much for me. There are multiple other factors, including the ridiculous vaccination schedule early in life that are highly suspect in this. I fear as well meaning as he is, he's putting way too much weight on tech use as a potential cause for autism.

I really enjoyed the presenter (Angie Neal's) speaking style & how well she explained various concepts related to technology & screen use, etc. She provided so many good examples as well as practical solutions as to what qsolutions re. what we can do to reduce screen time & enhance the healthy brain development in children. I found her descriptives "Could be the next second-home smoke" (parental use of screens) and "mental junk food" (majority of online content) to be spot-on. new second-h

I appreciate the update in research as I do have parents who will ask about screen time occasionally. This is also good information to use when gaining new younger clients who are having expressive language delays. By giving parents this information upfront, they may be more apt to increase their engagement with their toddlers.

It validated the feelings I am having about the amount of screen time children are exposed to...especially the children on my school-age caseload in the public school setting. I find that many of the children who need my specialized assistance are addicted to screens. I can use this information to help train and educate parents, and also school districts who are relying more and more on screens in learning rather than discussions, group work, and play time in younger age groups.
