I appreciate this course, as I have just taken on a mentee who attended graduate school during the pandemic and feels very much as Amber described in her presentation. This course helped re-assess my behavior and how to be most helpful to her. Thank you!!

This course is extremely applicable to a situation I am working through with a co-worker who finished her CF in 2021. I have noticed gaps in her clinical skills and am coaching her through difficult feedback sessions from our principal. This is helpful for me in knowing I am on the right track in supporting her, but also understanding and being reminded that students who graduated during the Covid era may have not receive the best training and supervisory experiences due to pandemic challenges

Our field has definitely been impacted by the pandemic. I feel all the information is informative/beneficial and definitely will be helpful with the changes that we are seeing. We will be supervising a graduate student at my school, so this information will be very helpful to address some of the gaps that may have been experienced by the student.

I appreciate that Ms. Heape shared the importance of/how to encourage self-efficacy for developing resiliency and the wisdom of how to use small steps to do that. Her ideas and suggestions are applicable to supervisory situations beyond the post-covid era and her situational examples are very accurate. I have not recently/am not currently supervising but will certainly apply this if and when I do in the future. Thank you for this presentation.

I liked how the course looked at all perspectives for students entering the healthcare field of speech language pathology. Not only did it look to explain a students perspective, it thought to include the admin or supervisors perspective too. As someone who went to school and entered the work force during the pandemic I appreciated the validation within the resilience it takes to complete necessary coursework and work tasks during such a stressful time.

Did not address the issue that clinicians who were suppose to receive training were not properly trained! They need to go back to school and they need to redo their hours, it has hurt our profession, just read the forums where SLPs ask and respond to each other. It is not resilience that is an issue it is total lack of training with experiences SLPs, they need rigorous ways to weed out those without the proper skills. They are pushing people through that are not mentally able to do the job

I like that it acknowledges and addresses compassion fatigue. That is exactly what I have been feeling. I mentored for a few years but stopped due to many of the reasons listed in this course. I wonder how I can mentor/supervise when I am feeling overwhelmed and experiencing compassion fatigue? That feeling impacts my confidence. I have discussed with colleagues sometimes feeling like a fraud. I believe it is this compassion fatigue.

Thank you for the reminder of the impact COVID-19 had on our SLP graduate students, CFs, as well as young and seasoned SLPs. It’s easy to forget the significant and stressful time that was, and it is important to recognize the different experience our students and young SLPs had during a critical learning period. This has opened my eyes even more, and will truly help me to be extra mindful in my mentorship. This course was fabulous; I will definitely use some of your strategies (e.g., 3 Ps).
