This course builds on Part 1 which laid the foundation for using metalinguistic questions to help students bind the elements of morphology, phonology, semantics, and orthography of language to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary, decoding, and spelling. In this session, participants will be given multiple examples of how these questions can be applied across grade levels and will be able to plan lessons for their own use.

She teaches courses in language development, preschool and school-age language disorders, speech-sound disorders, and literacy disorders. She supervises the evaluation and treatment of dyslexia.

Lisa Barnett specializes in teaching literacy skills to people of all ages. She has been teaching in the Fenton Area Public Schools for 30+ years, nearly all of those in special education. She also tutors privately, presents nationally and internationally, and trains people world-wide in English Orthography through Structured Word Inquiry literacy practices through her business, Empower Learning Center. She has served on committees and organizations such as: the Michigan Department of Education Standards Revision Committee and as a Founding Member of Decoding Dyslexia MI, serving as a State Leader for five years. She is a published author of pamphlets, blogs, and articles. Her passion is helping people understand that English spelling is a well-ordered system.
