Compassion fatigue certainly happens in the school setting! This was an excellent course and I appreciate all of the strategies to combat fatigue. It would be helpful if administrators take this course to understand how compassion fatigue affects the staff. Thank you for offering this course!

I learned more about how stress , chronic uncertainty, vicarious traumatization, and secondary traumatic stress can contribute to physical problems such as disrupted sleep, chronic pain, depressed mood, susceptibility to infection, inflammatory diseases, accelerated aging, and early mortality. Some questions were raised to increase the participants' self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-care including what are your personal triggers to let you know it is time to recharge your battery?, etc..

All of the information presented was extremely useful to me in a personal way. I've experienced a lot of trauma in my own life and that was one of the reasons that I got into my profession; to mitigate the suffering of others. I am very empathetic as well, sometimes to a fault. Learning about compassion fatigue and STS and ways to manage it will be extremely helpful to me in my work and I will be referring back to this course regularly.

It really opened my eyes. I didn’t know that there was such a thing as compassion fatigue, but it makes a lot of sense. It also gave me a way to self monitor for signs of potential compassion fatigue and what to do if I see such signs. Also to support my coworkers and bring to their attention if I suspect they could be at risk

Wow! This course was such an important topic, although not often talked about. I think our field deals with a lot of burnout and we don’t talk about it. I loved how this course explained real life examples, prevention, self-assessment scales, and just ways to feel better. It also made me feel better that I am not alone in this! Especially because I am currently working in a virtual setting, I don’t have a teacher lounge and coworkers that I can speak with about these topics.
