I really loved how the speaker said that although many fluent people (including SLPs) say “Oh, I stutter sometimes” is NOT the same as “true stuttering” because a loss of control is not present with people who do not stutter.

It was a lot of brain information, but I think it's important to be reminded HOW stuttering is brain-based. I have never compared stuttering to motor programming. I've always separated - articulation, phono, fluency, and CAS in different groups. I've never thought of stuttering as a motor programming issue... which is crazy. I liked this presentation. It has provided me with more information to read and research! Thank you.

It was helpful to hear all of the current research summarized and its implications on assessment and treatment. I got completely muddied on the A and P in the beginning. I think Dr. LaSalle might be overestimating what the general SLP remembers from their neurology class. If that were a separtate hour and slower paced; it might have made more sense to me. Making this a two part course would be a good idea, I think to flesh out some parts.

It is very helpful to have the imaging results and research results to support the clinical observations. The documented physical basis of stuttering will help with insurance reimbursement of treatment, efficacy of providing services within the schools and helping people understand that stuttering is out of a person's control.

I enjoyed the content and new research findings from this session. There is a lot of useful information, however, I am not a researcher and some of the concepts were difficult to understand. Abbreviations were difficult to decipher. I would have liked to see the speaker slow down a little and explain in simpler terms what the research shows so that most can understand. Otherwise, a good session.
