Brenda K. Thompson, MA, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, CNT, is the Inpatient Clinical Manager of Speech-Language Pathology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. She has been practicing as a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist for 25 years and has been employed at Children's Hospital since 2001. Her clinical expertise focuses on pediatric feeding, swallowing, and development in medically fragile infants and toddlers as well as with infants with craniofacial and airway anomalies. Her other work interests include supporting ongoing professional development of medically-based Speech-Language Pathologists, expanding the role of the inpatient Speech-Language Pathologist, and supporting best outcomes in patients receiving Speech Pathology services by reinforcing Evidence-Based Decision Making. She previously worked full-time in the level IV Medical-Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 18 years prior to transitioning to her management position. She provides Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies to both inpatient and outpatients. She holds Ohio state licensure and national certification and membership through the
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She holds Board Certification Specialty in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BCS-S) and is a mentor for others seeking this certification. She is also a Certified Neonatal Therapist (CNT). She is a frequent presenter at the local, state and national levels in various topics regarding swallowing/swallowing disorders, NICU-related topics, and craniofacial conditions.
