Useful information with my practice in skilled nursing. Clarified that residents aren’t non-compliant if they choose to opt out of diet recommendations. It is their right to do so. And that an SLP needs to look at medications, interactions and side effects. I’ve been told by nursing and rehab manager that medication interactions are out of my scope of practice. I was able to educate them in SLP scope of practice to support my actions.

Multiple facets of ethical considerations were explored as well as challenges we face as SLPs in applying our professional recommendations within the parameters of ethical considerations and taking in to account patient preferences, medical issues, legal issues, setting, etc. There are many considerations and I don't think I would have known them all or the truly huge scope that these considerations encompass without the detailed review in this course.

I admit, I've rated other courses less-than-great because slides didn't have pictures and were just black-and-white, and I couldn't see the presenter's video feed. However, this presenter had an engaging, informative way of speaking that held my attention. I will say, I don't appreciate the two questions I got wrong in the exam, as I disagree with the "correct" answers based on this presentation, and am not fond of questions that test your testing skills rather than actual understanding.

I don't enjoy the topic of ethics in general. That being said, this course was not extremely well organized. I felt the speaker jumped around too much. She didn't explain what the numbers in parenthesis meant. During the discussion of the ASHA Code of Ethics, I didn't understand which parts belonged to which section (part Q is in section 1 or 2?). The slides were wordy and didn't have context, and what she said didn't match the content of the slides or was loosely tied to the slide.
