The Effect of Divided Attention on Speech Fluency

The purpose of this study was to examine how a divided attention task affected the speech fluency of two groups of normal speakers. Frequency of disfluency and speaking rate were compared across the two groups. Results revealed no differences in total disfluencies across age groups or tasks. Clinical implications of these findings are discussed, as are directions for future research.
